Gandy Brodie's painting synthesizes past masters through the ages, with strong influences of VanGogh, Cezanne and Paul Klee, but extends beyond those into a unique and definitive Modern Painting style of his own, sometimes referred to as philosophical representationalism. Simultaneously figurative and abstract, his unique vision defies categorization.

Praised as "one of the best painters of his generation" by art historian, Meyer Shapiro, Gandy Brodie was a recipient of many awards, including a National Council on the Arts Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship.  His works can be viewed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC), the Museum of Modern Art (NYC), the National Museum of American Art (Smithsonian, Washington, DC), the Whitney Museum of American Art (NYC) and many others.

This website is intended to help preserve and promote the legacy of this as-yet under-recognized artist, to assist art historians and curators in the study of his role in American Arts, and to promote access to his works by artists, art professionals, art lovers and art collectors.
